Built by Boeing in Vancouver and Canadian Vickers and Canadair in Montreal, the Canso was the amphibious version of the Catalina. Ten RCAF squadrons in Canada used this flying boat. 162 Squadron’s Cansos were the only ones to sink any U-Boats, six in total. After the war the Canso was used for aerial surveying and general transport in the north, and for search and rescue.
