In Afghanistan the value of a heavy-lift helicopter became apparent. The RCAF purchased the CH-147F Chinook to support the Canadian Army, special operations forces, other government departments and other agencies in domestic and international operations. The Chinook is used to transport equipment and personnel and features enhanced self-protection capabilities.
