Needing aircraft for maritime patrols at the start of the war, the RCAF quickly purchased the Digby. It would serve with Nos. 10 and 161 (Bomber Reconnaissance) Squadrons. With the former the aircraft was used in 11 attacks on U-Boats, including one successful attack. As better aircraft came into service the Digby was relegated to serving in a transport role.
