Although four RCAF squadrons operated the Beaufort overseas, only 149 Squadron used the Beaufort in Canada. The squadron was prepared to attack any Japanese warships coming from the Aleutian Islands. When the Japanese withdrew from the Aleutians, 149 Squadron changed its role and its aircraft. The Beauforts were placed into storage.
