In 1945 de Havilland Canada began to design a trainer suitable for the post-war period. The Chipmunk would not only become the RCAF’s primary pilot trainer. The RCAF also gave them to civilian flying clubs to provide refresher training for RCAF Reserve pilots. The Chipmunk would also be made in England and Portugal and serve in more than 20 other air forces.
